What is ILLiad?                                                                                                                 Back to top

ILLiad is an Interlibrary Loan management product that the MacPhaidin Library now uses for all Interlibrary Loan activity. All ILL requests are now processed using ILLiad.

What are the advantages of ILLiad?                                                                           Back to top

Using ILLiad, you can do the following:

  • Place requests electronically

  • Save your contact information one time and have it applied to all of your requests

  • Update your contact information at any time

  • Check on the status of your requests and ask for renewals

  • View your past requests (those that have been requested through ILLiad)

  • Receive many articles through electronic delivery

  • Access ILLiad from anywhere you have the Internet and a web browser

Why do I need a username and password?                                                           Back to top

Your username and password allows us to give you secure access to information about your interlibrary loan requests and to your personal contact information. Use your Stonehill user name and password for ILLiad. Please remember that you will be required to change your Stonehill password every 120 days. You will then need to log into ILLiad with your old password and change it if you want your ILLiad password to be the same as your Stonehill password.

How do I register?

Register the first time you make an Interlibrary Loan request. Click on the “First Time Users” link and follow the prompts. For your ILLiad user name and password, enter your Stonehill user name and password.

But I don’t know my Stonehill user name and password!                                    Back to top

Your Stonehill user name is usually your first initial and last name. If you have lost, or forgotten your STONEHILL password, please come to the Help Desk in Stanger Hall between 8:30 and 4:30 Mon. - Fri. You must bring your student ID.

What Web browser should I use?

You need a Web browser that can handle forms, tables, and preferably Cascading Style Sheets (CSS). We recommend the current versions of either Microsoft Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox.

How can I use ILLiad if I don't have a personal computer for Web access?

You can access ILLiad via any public workstation on or off campus.

Is security a problem if I use a public workstation?                                              Back to top

Yes. Web browsers cache information and create a history file on the local workstation. This allows a subsequent user of the workstation to access the system under your name using the browser's Back button to recall a page from the cache, or by finding a page with your personal information in the browser's history file. If you are concerned about the security of your interlibrary loan requests, you can take the following steps:

  • Access ILLiad only from your personal computer or an otherwise secure workstation.
  • When using a public access workstation, remember to log off of ILLiad and log off the computer when you are finished.

Will ILLiad work with databases like WorldCat and Academic Search Premier?

Yes, these and other library databases that offer an Interlibrary Loan option will work with ILLiad. When using such databases, clicking on the ILL link will bring you to an ILLiad log on page. After you log in, ILLiad will automatically fill in the request form.

Where are my requests? I can not find them.                                                      Back to top

There are several different places your requests may be:

  • Active Requests -- Use this button to view, edit, or cancel those requests that are still in process.
  • Checked Out Items -- Use this button to view or renew item checked out to your username.
  • Request History -- Use this button to see all your completed requests. Completed requests are photocopies you have already received and loans you have returned.
  • Cancelled Requests -- Use this button to view or resubmit any request that has been cancelled either by Interlibrary Loan staff or by you.
  • If you have trouble locating a request please contact the Interlibrary Loan office at 508-565-1310, or email.

What is electronic delivery?

Many libraries ship photocopies of articles to us in electronic format. In the past we printed these articles before delivering them to you. Now, through ILLiad, we are able to offer you the option of electronic delivery of these articles in PDF format (Adobe's Portable Document Format). Articles are housed on our server for 30 days during which time they can be viewed and printed. Patrons are notified by e-mail when articles are available. The articles or files are viewed from the ILLiad request submission page under the Review Requests section using the View/Download Electronically Received Articles option.
